Chipwanya wants to provide better healthcare for children under the age of 5.
Community Problem: Chipwanya Village is located along Lake Malawi in Northern Malawi. The community used to travel long distances to the closet clinic that provided healthcare for young children, often known as an "under-five clinic." Many parents had difficulty making the journey, resulting in large numbers of kids who missed vaccinations and failed to access treatment for malnutrition. This year the chief of Chipwanya asked the closest hospital to send one health worker to the village on a regular basis to operate an under-five clinic. The hospital agreed, but the village doesn't have a proper building for the clinic, so the health worker treats patients under a tree🌳. This is a major challenge during the rainy season.
Community Solution: Build an under-five clinic in Chipwanya. The community has bricks 🧱, but needs iron sheets, cement, and other building materials to construct the clinic. Chipwanya plans to use the new building not only as a clinic, but also as a nursery school for local kids.
Partners: National Peace Corps Association
Outcome: an under-five medical clinic for the entire village
