The pigs are happy in Yelemiya. The same cannot be said for the maize, which is withering from lack of rain.

Yelemiya held a low-key ceremony to celebrate the arrival of 30 piglets for community members. Recipients will raise and breed the piglets and share offspring throughout the community. The local chief said that this project will improve the economic status of local residents and facilitate the purchase of farm inputs. Secondary school student Praise Mwaungulu received a piglet. As an orphan living with her grandmother, she will use the piglet to complete her education (the piglet is an asset to hedge against financial challenges that can arise and cause students (particularly girls) to leave school).
