Unloading fertilizer from the transport truck.

Likoswe Village kicked off the first year of its fertilizer loan by receiving 45 bags of fertilizer just in time for the start of the rainy season in Malawi. Most recipients really needed this fertilizer because they didn't receive subsidized fertilizer from the government this year. Fertilizer can spell the difference between having a good harvest and feeding your family, on the one hand, and not doing that and enduring an extended "hungry season," on the other hand. Residents will pay back the revolving loan over the next year in order to buy more fertilizer next year and so on. Thank you, donors, for making this happen! A local ward councillor (guy in the suit) and local chief (red shirt) attended the event and did the honors of handing out the fertilizer in front of a nursery school funded by Village X donors in 2016. In one picture below, a recipient is signing an agreement to pay back her portion of the loan. We've had good success with these loans in other villages.
