Namowa held a ceremony to open its new clinic! Namowa is working with the health department to schedule programming at the clinic (e.g., weighing of children under 5, maternal health seminars). Namowa also plans to use the building (when not in use as a clinic) for other community activities, such as an overflow classroom and study hall for the local primary school and a space for village saving groups to meet. In his comments, Namowa’s chief thanked Village X donors for changing the shape of the community and, in her remarks, the head of the village development committee promised to care for the building.

At a recent meeting in Namowa, residents selected June 25 for a celebration marking completion of the clinic. Several residents spoke about how the project will help their families. For example, Mrs. Matipwiri, who fetched water used to build the clinic, previously traveled to a clinic 13 kilometers away for pediatric medical services. She also welcomed use of the building (when not in use as a clinic) for community gatherings, such as meetings of her local savings and loan group.
