Three Village X partner villages -- Nakhwala, Saiti and Chikumbu -- want to build a bridge to provide year-round access to schools and health facilities.

Community Problem: During the rainy season, the Namatope River floods, denying residents of these villages access to a local school and health clinic. When flooded, the River also prevents vehicles from transporting critically ill patients from the health clinic to the district hospital in Zomba, the closest city. Not having a bridge is also dangerous for local residents. For example, Mary Lichapa and her brother nearly drowned trying to cross the flooded Namatope after a heavy rain. Thankfully they were rescued by passersby.

Community Solution: Build a bridge across the Namatope River. The bridge will facilitate year-round access across the River, improving access to education, health, commercial, and agricultural activities.

Partners: direct donors and the people of Nakhwala, Saiti, and Chikumbu

Outcome: a sturdy bridge that ensures year-round crossings of the Namatope River
